Walk over the historic Road to the Isles

Discover the unique appeal of Rannoch Moor on this linear walk between Corrour Railway Station and Rannoch Railway Station.
The starting point is Rannoch Station, which can be reached by driving west along Loch Tummel on the B8019 to Tummel Bridge and continuing along the north side of Loch Rannoch on the B846, past Loch Eigheach to Rannoch Station. Park at the station as Corrour cannot be reached by car and the transfer between Rannoch Station and Corrour Station must be by train (approx. 10-15 mins.)

At 1,350 feet, Corrour Railway Station is the highest in the British Isles and is also the starting point for the historic Road to the Isles walk that linked this part of Scotland to the west coast. From the station the walk take you eastwards to the southern end of Loch Ossian, from where it veers away from the loch and between Meall na Lice (1906ft/583m) to the right and Carn Dearg (3080ft/939m) to the left. Keep to the path as you pass the ruin of Corrour Old Lodge, once Scotland’s highest shooting lodge. Once you start the descent towards Allt Eigeach, Rannoch Station is visible amongst the trees in the distance. Take the footbridge over the river and then the track that leads to the public road.
